It was a quiet evening in the city as the Live Out Love street ministry team gathered with volunteers from a local church, wrapping up a day of serving the homeless in the church’s community. Their hearts were full, their spirits lifted. They stood together on a dimly lit side street, closing in prayer—hands clasped, eyes lifted to heaven, their voices a chorus of love and gratitude.
Then, headlights approached.
A pickup truck slowed, its engine rumbling softly before coming to a stop. The doors opened, and a man and woman stepped out. Their faces were wet with tears, their hands trembling.
“Are you praying?” the man asked, his voice shaking. The team nodded.
“We were praying too,” the woman whispered. “We asked God for angels… and when we turned the corner, we found you.”
Tears streamed down her face as she and the man stepped into the circle, drawn in by something greater than themselves. They didn’t ask for food, shelter, or money. They only needed prayer.
And so, without hesitation, the group of volunteers embraced them—both physically and spiritually.
As they began to sing Rescue by Lauren Daigle, the air felt different. The weight of their burdens, the pain in their voices, the deep cries of their hearts—all of it filled the space between them.
The man’s chest heaved with emotion. His past had been filled with violence and betrayal. He had recently been robbed, held at gunpoint, and abandoned by someone he thought would love him forever. He had nothing left—except the woman beside him, whom he had been protecting after she fled from an abusive home.
As the music filled the night, his walls broke.
One of the volunteers, experiencing his first night of outreach, was moved beyond words. Though he had been told not to give money, he felt an undeniable pull. He reached into his pocket and pressed a few bills into the man’s hand, then wrapped him in a deep, heartfelt hug. Everyone was in tears.
Then, one of the Live Out Love founders, stepped forward and placed a steady hand on the man’s heart and whispered, “You don’t have to carry this shame anymore. Release it.”
A cry ripped from the man’s throat as the group from church met him, all praying out loud. The man collapsed into the founder’s arms, his large frame shaking as he sobbed. A few of the volunteers raised his hands in worship, declaring God’s love and healing over him.
The woman stood trembling, her eyes locking with one of the volunteers. She reached for her and clung to her, unable to let go.
“I see my daughter in you,” she whispered through her tears. “I will never forget you, I will never forget this moment”
This moment, love transcended words. This was no accident, this was a divine appointment. For the man and woman, it was a moment of rescue, a reminder that God had not abandoned them. But for the church volunteers, this was their first time to pray for the homeless in their community—those who had stepped out for the first time to serve their community—it was life-changing.
That day, hearts were forever transformed. The volunteers who once hesitated to step into the streets now felt a fire within them. They no longer saw strangers; they saw souls in need of love. They committed to serving their community every single week.
💜 Because when we show up, God moves. When we love out loud, miracles happen.
